Our Introductory Course is available to to new members.  The offer includes six classes with an internationally qualified Dan (Black Belt) instructor, a uniform and membership. After completing the six classes you will have all of the necessary skills to be an active participant and to make an informed decision about Soo Bahk Do.

During the Introductory Course you are encouraged to ask questions about the style, its history and application of the lessons. We want you to be able to make an informed decision about training with us, at the same time we will be assessing you to see if you are eligible to become a member of the Moo Duk Kwan. At the completion of the Introductory Course members progress to the “Juniors Member Class”. The introductory course is run when new members start at the same time as the Juniors Member Classes at Gungahlin.

Class Structure

Soo Bahk Do is a traditional martial art with no emphasis on competition or violence. The skills taught are designed to teach students self control, discipline and awareness of themselves and their surroundings.

Classes begin with a traditional opening ceremony and warm-ups. Classes are a balance of hard and soft, in keeping with the theory that a martial artist is both a warrior and a scholar. All classes are set with a theme inspired by Moo Do Philosophy, and incorporate one or more of the following:

  • Practical self defence
  • Stretching
  • Stances
  • Partner work
  • Hyung (pre-sequenced sets of movements)
  • Kicking and hand techniques
  • Strengthening and conditioning drills
  • Traditional breathing exercises
  • Meditation

Classes finish with a traditional closing ceremony.
